Welcome Message from Fr. Chrysostom

Dear Web-page Visitor,

Welcome to the web-page of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church!

We are an old and unique Catholic community in downtown Denver, located on Auraria Campus. St. E. has been part of the landscape of this city since 1896 and continues to be a witness to Gospel of Jesus Christ in our contemporary post-modern society.

One of the unique dimensions of this parish is that it embraces two different liturgical traditions and communities within its one parish family- Roman and Russian Byzantine. It is one of the few places in the country, and even in the world, where the Christian West and the Christian East can encounter and enrich one another in an ongoing way within the bonds of communion. As a married, bi-ritual Catholic priest (ordained in the Byzantine tradition), and father of three children, I have found the experience of “breathing with both lungs” (Eastern and Western), to be a tremendously rich spiritual gift.

St. Elizabeth parish is also a place where the active and conscious participation of the lay faithful in the Liturgy and in other areas of life is taken very seriously. Here the involvement of Christian people in the wider society, in social issues and in politics is regarded as a normal and necessary implication of God’s own commitment to this world in the wonder of the incarnation of His eternal and only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ. St. Elizabeth’s daily Sandwich Line for the homeless is one expression of our response of thanksgiving to this divine commitment of God towards us.

If you are looking for a vital, creative and faithful Catholic community, visit our parish. You will find that, in a deep sense, all are truly welcome here and are embraced as a gift of God. On Sunday, the Day of Resurrection, the Day of the Lord, the Roman-Rite Mass is celebrated at 9:00 a.m. and the Russian Byzantine Liturgy (in English) at 12:00 noon.

Our week-day (Monday through Friday) 12:00 noon Mass is an opportunity for our parish to provide the spiritual nourishment of the Word of God and the Holy Eucharist to students on Campus, as well as to people working in the lower downtown area. Confessions are heard on Tuesdays from 12:30 to 1:00 in conjunction with Adoration and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

Our parish proclaims and celebrates in a variety of ways the goodness of God’s creation and the joy of creation’s renewal in and through the Paschal Mystery of Jesus Christ and the ever-creative work of the Spirit of God.

I would like to invite you to continue to browse through our web-page. If you have any questions or would like to know more about our community, please feel free to contact us at 303.534.4014.

Wishing you all the best in the crucified and risen Lord,
Father Chrysostom Frank
(Pastor)
