Weddings

Eligibility

The bride or groom must be a baptized Catholic in order to get married at St. Elizabeth's. In addition, the (Catholic) bride or groom must be a registered and practicing member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish, or must have received delegation and preparation from a priest of his or her own parish. If this is not the first marriage of both parties, a Declaration of Nullity must be obtained for all previous unions BEFORE a date may be set for the wedding.

Marriage Preparation

"The very preparation for Christian marriage is itself a journey of faith. It is a special opportunity for the engaged to rediscover and deepen the faith received in Baptism and nourished by their Christian upbringing. In this way they come to recognize and freely accept their vocation to follow Christ and to serve the Kingdom of God in the married state."
-Pope John Paul II

You will need to attend a Marriage Open House Meeting at St. Elizabeth's (held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays at 5:30pm).

You will need to complete a marriage preparation inventory called FOCCUS. FOCCUS is a tool which will help you assess your strengths as well as areas for grouth as a couple.

The Archdiocese of Denver requires all couples to participate in a formal marriage preparation workshop. Contact us for the current schedule of programs available, or visit the Archdiocesann webpage at: www.archden.org/marriage/.

You are required to take instructions in Natural Family Planning. Call 303-433-0216 for a schedule of classes.

Scheduling the Wedding

If you are not a member of this parish, you should have written delegation from your own pastor before attempting to schedule your wedding here. Find out if your pastor will celebrate the ceremony and do the preparation work with you.

You must contact the parish at least 8 months before the date of the wedding. It is best to reserve your wedding date one year in advance. Find out what dates are open for your marriage before confirming halls or other services to avoid conflicting with other celebrations.

Weddings are not celebrated during Lent or Advent.

Weddings may be celebrated on Fridays at 6pm, Saturdays at 12:00 noon and 4pm and on Sundays at 5pm.

A marriage between two Catholics, or between a Catholic and a baptized Christian, may be celebrated within a nuptial Mass. Please specify your preference for a wedding within or outside of Mass. If one of the parties is not baptized, the marriage is always celebrated outside Mass.

Couples living together prior to marriage may certainly have their marriage blessed by the Church, but do not normally have the Eucharist celebrated at their wedding ceremony.

Church Fees

The cost of a wedding is $700. This fee includes the use of the church, a coordinator, and the celebrant. A non-refundable deposit of $500 is due when the date of the wedding is reserved. Final payment is due no less than one month prior to the celebration.
